The North Shore is beautiful, and the geology is unforgiving. Soil up here is thin, and most private wells end up drilled straight into bedrock. That changes the water a lot compared to what you'd get down in the Cities or out in farm country. Low pH is common, which means the water's slightly acidic and it eats copper pipes from the inside. Iron and manganese come through at higher rates than most places. Staining is a daily reality.
Up toward Schroeder and Tofte the situation is trickier still. Drilling's harder. Wells are deeper.
